Mapping Confirmed COVID-19 Cases Around the World

| |

Various governmental health organizations and the World Health Organization are reporting confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus, known officially as COVID-19 each day. These interactive maps and charts on the novel coronavirus were developed by Our World in Data and are based on the daily situational reports issued by the World Health Organization. The maps and charts are automatically updated each day as new confirmed COVID-19 case data is published by the WHO.

Data showing COVID-19 cases is based on confirmed cases, not all novel coronavirus cases that exist. The Who’s definition of a confirmed COVID-19 case is, “a person with laboratory confirmation of COVID-19 infection, irrespective of clinical signs and symptoms.”

One note highlighted by Our World in Data is that the noticeable increase in confirmed cases in China on February 17, 2020 is due to a change in “reporting methodology to include clinically-diagnosed cases in addition to laboratory-confirmed cases as previously reported.”
