What is the Esri Technical Certification?
Esri first launched its technical certification program in 2010. The exam program was launched as a way to “recognize people skilled in desktop, developer, and enterprise use of Esri technology. Earning a certification will mean an individual possesses a high level of technical expertise using Esri software.“
When it first launched in 2011, exams were offered in ArcGIS Desktop Associate, ArcGIS Desktop Professional, Web Application Developer Associate, Enterprise Geodatabase Management Associate, and Enterprise Administration Associate.
Since then, additional exams have been offered by Esri. Certification is accomplished by taking a two-hour exam comprising 90-95 multiple-choice questions, which is offered only in English. The test is made available at 5,000 locations across 165 countries.

Offered for the Associate level examination for ArcGIS Desktop technical certification, the book entitled Esri ArcGIS Desktop Associate Certification Study Guide is a hands on guide for studying for this exam. The book contains a review of the GIS skills and knowledge base required for successfully passing the ArcGIS Associate Exam including:
- Overviews of essential ArcGIS for Desktop tools and workflows
- Step-by-step exercises to reinforce what you’ve learned
