Here is some information on some of the most remote islands and archipelagos on Earth.

Where is the most remote inhabited island?

The most remote inhabited island is called Tristan da Cunha, located in the South Atlantic Ocean. Tristan da Cunha is 1,512 miles from Saint Helena, 1,750 miles from South Africa, and 2,090 miles from South America.

Where is the northernmost island?

The northernmost island in the world is Kaffeklubben Island, which is north of Greenland. The island itself is the northernmost point of land on Earth, although the point is disputed because of a shifting set of gravel bars that appear and change just north of Kaffeklubben Island.

Where is the southernmost island?

The southernmost island in the world is called Berkner Island, located about 62 miles away from the coast of Antarctica.

Where are the western and easternmost islands located?

Looking along lines of longitude, the westernmost and easternmost islands can be found. Occupied by the Japanese in World War Two, Attu Island is part of Alaska’s island chain and it the westernmost island using the International Date Line as a reference.

The easternmost point on land is Caroline Island, an island claimed by the country of Kiribati.

Caroline Island is located at the southern end of the Line Islands in the South Pacific Ocean.  The uninhabited island is formed by smaller islets built on coral reefs.
